Three steps for getting Project 2 off the ground. Each step addresses some of the issues that were brought up during Monday’s review.
Step 1: Identify a specific material condition (folds, thinness, openings, texture, etc) in your project 1 On-Site models. We will work together to identify one material condition. Own that condition, really own it, design it, make it your own by establishing a procedure that “controls” the process.
By next Wednesday (October 16th) every person needs three new casts that attempt to “control” this material condition. It’s going to snow this weekend – plan accordingly.
Step 2: Identify three Off-Site (prefabricated assembly of elements) projects in the work of Ensamble Studio. On Friday (October 11th)come prepared to talk about each project; identifying what elements are present (walls, beams, trusses, columns, space-frames, etc). Talk to each other, select a range of projects, Ensamble Studio has done a lot of work.
Identify three “soccer stories” in Galeano’s “Soccer in Sun and Shadow”. Do not select the “Goal by” stories. Talk to each other, each person must select a unique story. Retype, print, and bring the stories to class on Friday (October 11th).
By Friday (October 18th) each person needs to identify a single element (wall, beam, trusses, columns, space-frames, etc) and a single material (white museum board, acrylic, basswood, etc). The combination Element and Material will be your Off-site assembly.
Step 3: Intersect your On-site material conditions with the Off-site Element. We will talk about individual strategies for intersection in studio.
The material intersection will be supported by the “soccer stories” you select from Galeano’s “Soccer in Sun and Shadow” – and speak to the Project 2 site.
